Data Protection
The Data Protection module covers important knowledge relating to data protection concepts and principles, data subject rights, data protection policies and measures, and regulatory compliance.
With more and more activities and transactions going digital, a growing number of workers find themselves handling sensitive personal data. It is more important than ever that the people working with personal data have the skills to do so securely and legally.
The personal consequences for individuals of a breach of the security of their personal data can be substantial, as can be the legal and commercial consequences for organisations. An understanding of data protection concepts is increasingly valued by employers. This module is relevant for organisations inside and outside the European Union.
Successful candidates will be able to:
Understand concepts relating to personal data and its protection.
Understand the rationale, objectives, and scope of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Outline the key principles of the GDPR relating to the lawful processing of personal data.
Understand the rights of data subjects and how they are upheld.
Understand that company policies and methods should comply with data protection regulations, and outline key technical and organisational measures to achieve this.
Understand how to respond to data breaches and the consequences of not complying with data protection regulations.
Online E-Learning
Leaving Certificate or equivalent, fluency in the English language and intermediate computer literacy level are required.
You will be required to complete and pass a basic IT Literacy entry quiz at the start of the course, if you do not pass the quiz you will not be able to continue with the programme.
All students should have access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Windows (e.g Windows 10). Apple/Android devices are not supported and cannot be used for this course.
A broadband connection is essential to stream video content.
You require a web browser to view content and access web platforms. You will receive an Office 365 licence to use for the duration of the course.
