The Online Collaboration module covers the main concepts and skills needed to collaborate online using web-based tools and services.


With distributed teams, remote working, and outsourcing now common practice in organisations, workers are often interacting with people who are elsewhere in the world. Technology is helping to remove geographical and organisational boundaries at work, but this also means that new skills are needed to collaborate effectively with colleagues.


This module is suitable for a wide range of candidates in all types of job role. Online collaboration does not only apply when colleagues work long distances from each other. Collaboration tools and services bring many productivity gains that will also benefit workers in the same location.

Successful candidates will be able to: 

  • Understand the key concepts relating to online collaboration and cloud computing. 

  • Set up accounts to prepare for online collaboration. 

  • Use online storage and web-based productivity applications to collaborate. 

  • Use online and mobile calendars to manage and plan activities. 

  • Collaborate and interact using social networks, blogs, and wikis. 

  • Schedule and host online meetings and use online learning environments. 

  • Understand key mobile technology concepts and use features such as e-mail, applications, and synchronisation.

Online E-Learning

Entry requirements
  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent, fluency in the English language and intermediate computer literacy level are required.

  • You will be required to complete and pass a basic IT Literacy entry quiz at the start of the course, if you do not pass the quiz you will not be able to continue with the programme.

  • All students should have access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Windows (e.g Windows 10)Apple/Android devices are not supported and cannot be used for this course.

  • A broadband connection is essential to stream video content.

  • You require a web browser to view content and access web platforms. You will receive an Office 365 licence to use for the duration of the course.
