Training Aim:

Candidates who successfully complete Level 3 Horticulture will gain experience in growing a variety of flowers and vegetables.

Objectives:

Learners who successfully complete this course will:

  • Acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to grow and maintain a variety of plants.

  • Develop safe work practices.
  • Develop an appreciation of nature and the environment.
  • Develop teamwork skills.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the life cycle of a plant.

  • Grow a variety of plants from seed.
  • Plant a variety of bulbs.
  • Maintain the plants.
  • Keep a gardening diary.
  • Use and maintain a variety of common garden tools and machinery.
  • Interpret comon hazard symbols.
  • Follow correct procedures for the handling, storage and disposal of garden chemicals.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Work as a member of a team.
     

Training Duration:

20 hours (depending on Learner's prior knowledge/existing skills.

Assessment & Certification:

Portfolio of Coursework and Gardening Diary.
Horticulture Certificate FETAC Level 3.
