Database Methods (FETAC) Level 5 B20012

Training Aim:

To enable the Learner to gain an understanding of the fundamental database concepts and gain practical experience in database design, implementation and organisation. It also introduces the learner to the use of additional database operations.

Objectives:

  • Understand databases and their range of applications

  • Use databases for a range of applications
  • Create databases from design specification(s)
  • Utilise a wide range of database functions in order to manipulate, interrogate and output information
  • Create a database according to a given brief, under time constraint
  • Demonstrate personal initiative and resourcefulness in responding to database assignments.
     

Outline Training Plan:

The specific learning outcomes are grouped in 3 units.

Unit 1: Basic Database Concepts
Unit 2: Database Design, Implementation and Organisation
Unit 3: Additional Database Operations

 
Training Duration:

 
30 hours approx (depending on Learner's prior knowledge/existing skills).

Upon request (discounted group and FÁS/CE participant)

Record System

  • Access Database, as approved by FETAC.

  • All results are recorded on our database and comply with the Data Protection Act 1988.Project and Examination.
     

Assessment & Certification:

  • All assessment is devised by the Internal Assessor, with external modification by FETAC.

  • Assessment Briefs:
    • Examination: 50%
    • Project: 50%
       
  • Grading: Pass 50- 64% Merit 65% - 79% Distinction 80-100%
